DESCRIPTION:
Unknown, Massachusetts, C.1820, 8-day banjo or patent timepiece, weight driven, the case with rope molded, gilt frames.
CONDITION:
refinished mahogany case in clean condition. Door and throat have wear and damage to the gilding & some of the worn areas have been filled in with gold paint. Aurora tablets are replacements. Original painted dial has age darkened with wear and some paint loss; maker's inscription is not legible. Alternate train movement with long teeth, is mounted in the case with through bolts, pinned at the front plate. Side arms are very thin and could be possible replacements. Brass bezel hinge is unusual with finial top and bottom. Hands are period and most likely original. Finial is period, but a little bit of the tip has been cut off. Ht 32.75"
